The Big Bang Theory: The Cooper-Nowitzki Theorem

(S02E06) After watching this episode, I’ve come up with a theory of my own: The ground is being laid for a Sheldon/Leslie romance. It has to be; why else would they pay for Sara Gilbert to come on the show and just call Sheldon a dumbass a couple of times? I can’t believe that they’d waste her talents like that, so the only other possibility is that they’re laying the groundwork for something bigger.
In any case, there’s no hot Sheldon/Leslie love this week, but BBT does delve into the possibility of a love life for Sheldon. Since the idea of Sheldon with a lady is a jarring one, I like how they eased us into the idea by basically giving him a stalker.
It seems like every group of single friends has this happen: you’re all looking for someone, but it’s always the friend who’s completely oblivious to everything going on around him who ends up with a cute girl coming over to his apartment to bring him dinner.
This was an exceptionally good storyline, because it really stayed true to Sheldon’s character. He tolerated Ramona because she revered him, he kept her around because, as we’ve seen before, he’s easily intimidated, and he kicked her to the curb because she dared to imply that he wasn’t king of the mountain. Most importantly, there weren’t any awkward kisses or clumsy, over-the-cardigan fondling, which goes along with the general consensus that Sheldon doesn’t have boy parts.
I loved when Leonard, Wolowitz and Koothrappali were standing around in the hallway attempting to explain to Penny what Sheldon’s “deal” is. Quite frankly, mitosis as a form of reproduction is far more plausible than Sheldon actually getting naked with a girl. Ugh. Just writing that freaked me out. As Penny said, “thanks for the nightmares.”
Some other funny lines from this episode:
“Now we know what happens when you accidentally spill peach Snapple onto a helium-neon laser. Short answer is– don’t.” - Leonard
“I might as well explain the laws of thermodynamics to a bunch of labradoodles.” - Sheldon
“I remember when I too was deciding my academic future as a lowly graduate student. Of course I was fourteen, and I had already achieved more than most of you could ever hope to, despite my 9:00 bed time.” - Leonard
“Three tines is not a fork. Three tines is a trident. Forks are for eating, tridents are for ruling the seven seas.” - Leonard
Penny: You probably don’t want to go in there.
Sheldon: Why? What are they doing?
Penny: The only way I could explain it would be in a therapist’s office with dolls.

The Big Bang Theory Episode 2.01: The Bad Fish Paradigm
On Monday, September 22, CBS’ hit sitcom The Big Bang Theory will return for its sophomore season.
The premiere, “The Bad Fish Paradigm,” sounds fun, with an embarrassing secret thrown in for good measure to stand in the way of Penny and Leonard’s ill-fated romance. Honestly — how many people really think they’re ever going to end up together? I don’t.
But the pair do go out on their first date during the episode, which turns out not so good (Shocker!). Fortunately for Penny, she soon learns that Sheldon is a perfect confidant, even if he doesn’t want to be confided in (Shocker #2!).
Make sure to catch the second-season premiere at the familiar time of 8pm EST.

A Behind-The-Scenes Look Into Geek Chic
CBS comedy is an interesting thing. The network can lay claim to the biggest sitcom on television, the highly rated Two and a Half Men, but everything else could generously be called hit-and-miss. Two of the staples of the network for the last decade - Everybody Loves Raymond and The King of Queens - are gone and the search to find their replacements have led to some odd places. Most CBS sitcoms vary wildly in quality not just over the course of a season but sometimes in the same episode. There are things to like about How I Met Your Mother and The New Adventures of Old Christine, but neither are comedy classics, and other recent attempts at new shows like Rules of Engagement and The Class were appropriately dead on arrival. Which leads us to The Big Bang Theory on Monday nights and newly released on DVD, a show that went through a rollercoaster of quality in just one strike-shortened season. When Big Bang works, it’s very, very funny. And if the comic timing could be tightened and the writing could be more consistent from week to week, it could be the answer that CBS has been looking for the last few years in their attempts to find a young audience looking for a good laugh on a Monday night. Catch up with the first season on DVD this week and decide for yourself.
The pros of what you’ll find in the first seventeen episodes of The Big Bang Theory - from TV legend Chuck Lorre, who also created Two and a Half Men - start with the trio at the show’s core - Johnny Galecki, Jim Parsons, and Kaley Cuoco. Galecki and Parsons play Leonard and Sheldon, respectively, the former a sweet and lovable dork, the latter the anal retentive and obnoxious kind. Parsons’ Sheldon could be the son of Frasier’s Niles, an over-the-top snob who doesn’t really understand how the social structure of the real world functions. Galecki’s Leonard is the technical lead of the show, a guy who could probably win Beauty & The Geek with a makeover and a few lessons in confidence. He gets a few of those lessons when he falls for his new neighbor, Penny (the adorable and talented Kaley Cuoco). Two of Sheldon and Leonard’s friends usually play a role in the comedic hijinks.
Right before the strike, The Big Bang Theory felt like it was spinning its wheels. There had been some highlights - a Halloween party, a guest spot by Galecki’s Roseanne co-star Sarah Gilbert - but the show was starting to get stale and repetitive after just eight episodes. Could we watch Sheldon make a fool out of himself and Leonard pine over Penny every week? They had to mix it up. And, for the most part, the writers of The Big Bang Theory did just that in the second half of the season. Sheldon became even more over-the-top and Leonard came back more confident, creating more of a “straight man and wacky friend” structure to the show that really worked. Episodes about the Physics Bowl and, believe it or not, a Time Machine, served as series’ highlights. And then there’s the season finale, which was actually one of the best of 2007-08 and proved that the writers of The Big Bang Theory weren’t going to repeat themselves every single week. The Big Bang Theory is one of those unusual shows that might actually have been saved by the strike. Not only did the strike effect pilot season, causing a lot of “bubble” shows to get renewed simply because there was nothing in production to replace them, but it feels like BBT knew it had to step up its game after the writers put down their protest signs and picked up their pens. A show that was on the verge of cancellation should now have fans excited for the potential of season two. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to say that about a CBS sitcom.
‘The Big Bang Theory’ Recruits Emmy Nominated Actress as Series Regular
Guess who’s up for partying with a bang? CBS recently announced that an Emmy nominated actress will be joining the cast of The Big Bang Theory as a series regular, after appearing on the series’ first season as a guest star for a few episodes. Yes, Sara Gilbert, most popularly known for her stint on Roseanne, will be the newly recruited cast member of the second season of Big Bang Theory, which is scheduled to return to television screens beginning Monday, September 22, at 8:00pm.
The 33-year-old Sara Gilbert is best known for her nine-year portrayal of Darlene Conner on Roseanne, followed by her more recent appearance in the WB’s Twins. She also had a recurring role on CBS’ short-lived series, The Class. In 2007, she appeared as a guest on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory as Leslie Winkle, Leonard’s (Johnny Galecki) colleague and love interest.
During the Comic Con, series co-creator Chuck Lorre already hinted on Leslie’s return, and now that it has been made official, fans are eager to see what is up for the character in the second season of the series.
Gilbert’s return to the series also marks her reunion for former Roseanne costar, Johnny Galecki, who plays physicist Leonard Hofstadter, one of the central characters in the series. In fact, the character dynamics of Leonard and Darlene mimick that of Galecki and Gilbert’s characters in Roseanne.
In other news, Kaley Cuoco, who plays the feisty and “cheesecake-scented goddess” Penny, revealed earlier this month that despite Penny’s date with Leonard, they still have to clear out some issues before they embark on a real relationship.
Cuoco told TV Guide at the Comic Con, “I think it’s going to take a lot of mistakes [before that happens]. You’ve [first] got to mess things up left and right.”
To catch Sara Gilbert’s return to The Big Bang Theory and the developments in Leonard’s love life, tune in to CBS on Monday, September 22, at 8:00pm.
Sara Gilbert Joins The Big Bang Theory
Sara Gilbert has signed on as a series regular for CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.
According to Variety, Gilbert guest starred on three segments in the Warner Bros. TV comedy’s first season. She’ll continue in the role of egghead Leslie Winkle, a love interest to Johnny Galecki’s Leonard, a fellow egghead who’s trying to come out of his shell with women. Gilbert and Galecki previously co-starred as sweethearts on the later seasons of ABC’s Roseanne.
The Big Bang Theory, co-created and exec produced by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, starts its second season Sept. 22.
